Founder
Kulapati Dr. K.M. Munshi, born on December 30, 1887, in Bharuch, Gujarat, was a distinguished lawyer, social reformer, and activist dedicated to women's rights and combating caste prejudice. After earning his LL.B degree in 1907, he practiced law in Bombay and joined the Indian National Congress in 1916. He served as the Secretary of the Bombay Presidency Association and held significant positions such as a Member of the Constituent Assembly of India, Minister of Agriculture and Food, and Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Known for his multifaceted personality, Munshi was a creative writer, constitution-maker, freedom fighter, administrator, and champion of Indian culture.
In 1938, with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi, Munshi founded the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, an educational trust aimed at preserving Indian culture, education, and art from a secular perspective. He emphasized upholding Dharma—Truth, Love, and Beauty—in both personal and collective life. Munshi aspired to connect Indian education with its rich heritage while integrating the best aspects of the modern world, particularly in science and management.
